Ait Ben Haddou, Morocco 08.07.16 - 10.07.16
Last stop in Morocco was the sandy city starred in Game of Thrones - or rather, we didn't stay in the city itself but in a lonely Riad perched on top of an isolated hill about a mile into the dry desert. We felt like kings for a few days with out private pool and sandy view.
Ouarzazate, Morocco 06.06.16 - 08.06.16
A couple days in a tiny village near the desert. All buildings were made of clay, the community decorated the streets with hand painted pots and we met not only a girl who was in Game of Thrones but also an old man who has been cast to play a certain Osama in over 20 movies. We thought it'd be a bad idea to share the pics we took with him though haha.
Lviv, Ukraine 12.08.15 - 23.08.15
We had NOT expected to love Ukraine this much. But with it's intense emotions, pure authenticity, colorful life and themed restaurants (plus absolute lack of tourists) we couldn't help but fall in love. Had it not been for the unstable situation, we would have explored Ukraine further.
Ølstykke, Denmark 08.06.15 - 30.06.15 and 21.07.15 - 02.08.15
A small visit to Denmark before moving on - I had to show that Denmark can have nice weather too... And then an overlay before our ticket to Eastern Europe. The sun is never better than when it shines in Denmark. Unfortunately that doesn't happen quite often enough..
North Olmsted, OH, United States 16.05.15 - 07.06.15
Alex's first visit home in a year. So lovely to see and spend time with his family and friends and so hard to say goodbye once more before round two. Our visit in Cleveland was one full of dragging a 14-year-old to live shows, exploring Amish country and playing music in the basement.
San Miguel de Cozumel, Mexico 24.04.15 - 01.05.15
We've never before been that surrounded by beautiful heavenly water but absolutely no beaches or no points from which we could jump in. The island of Cozumel has only killer cliffs near the city, and of course we couldn't rent a car to drive to the beaches...
Izamal, Mexico 20.04.15
Another bumpy bus ride from Merida took us to "the yellow city". Not only was it an experience to see the absolutely endless yellowness, we also climbed one of the tallest Mayan ruins, from which we could see nothing but endless jungle in the horizon. First time we've been that much in the middle of nowhere.
Progreso, Mexico 18.04.15
A day trip away from Merida, this is where the Mexicans go on holiday. We found ourselves the only foreigners on a crowded beach in this little party city where drinking in the streets is apparently legal. We also just happened to be there for the largely promoted and free Corona Sunsets festival.
Merida, Mexico 10.04.15 - 24.04.15
We thought we'd have endless things to see in this giant city, which is the largest in Yucatan. However, our stay involved hours and hours og walking down similar, empty streets trying to find wi-fi and dinner at the same awesome vegan place for 6 nights, as everything else was much the same anyway.
Tulum, Mexico 27.03.15 - 03.04.15
We arrived in Tulum in the middle of the jungle during the first storm in Yucatan for months. Cute little city; more tourists than locals (not because there are a lot of tourists) pretty ruins and cenotes. We enjoyed having bikes again and gained the trust of two rescue dogs.
Playa del Carmen, Mexico 21.03.15 - 27.03.15 and 01.05.15 - 15.05.15
So this is where all the non-springbreakers are hiding! Finally a Mexican holiday town with an actual chill atmosphere. We were so happy to celebrate Alex's birthday exploring underground cenotes and scuba diving by the reef. Playa del Carmen - We'll be back! ... And we were... Approximately a month later...
Cancun, Mexico 14.03.15 - 21.03.15
Cancun; why are you such a sheithole? B-e-a-utiful beaches but sooo many tourists and an extreme gap in between wealth and poverty. We didn't see much of spring break either. But we're SO GLAD we stayed in the suburbs with the locals and not on the hotel strip! phew.
